HEALTHCARE POLICY:

I believe that comprehensive healthcare reform is an economic imperative. Americans are paying more and getting less for their healthcare dollar. That includes Iowans. Rising costs are already bankrupting many families, and if left unchecked, they threaten to bankrupt the country. I will take action to ensure Western Iowa small businesses, entrepreneurs, farmers, and families have access to quality care at affordable prices while reducing the burden on taxpayers.

To reduce the cost of healthcare I believe we need to promote:

• Strong market competition

• Access to pooling so individuals, families and small businesses can enjoy economies of scale

• Wellness and prevention

• Efficiency through increased innovation and improved management

• Elimination of the hidden tax on the insured through taxpayer payments for inefficient emergency care for the uninsured
